In a joint letter to political decision-makers, the members of the Association of German Wind Farm Operators (BWO) and WAB advocate a long-term reliable investment and financing framework for offshore wind projects in Germany. This would require, on the one hand, the introduction of contracts for difference (CfD) and, on the other hand, a dialogue on a long-term expansion target until 2035.

The Germany Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has announced that the federal government and coastal states have increased the capacity target of offshore wind power in the North Sea and Baltic Sea from 15 to 20GW by 2030.

A new study of how the performance of wind plants in the USA changes as they age found that output from the typical wind plant declines by about 13 percent over 17 years. Furthermore, plants of 10 years of age or less showed very little performance decline overall (-0.17 %/yr). The research, by Berkeley Lab, is based on data from 917 wind power projects in the US. It provides the first comprehensive evaluation of its kind for the USA.

The Berlin-based Think-and-Do Tank Energy Watch Group (EWG) has presented a legislative proposal to stimulate the system integration of renewable energy in Germany. The underlying purpose of the policy proposal is to allow renewable energy sources to finally assume responsibility for the system security of the power supply – i.e. to cover the required energy demand at every hour of the year.
