Half of monopile foundations installed at Thor offshore wind farm
- Category: Projects and Contracts
RWE has reached a milestone in the construction of the 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea: 36 of the 72 monopile foundations have now been installed. The monopiles were transported from the heavy-lift terminal in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, to the Thor site approximately 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland.

Germany sees strongest first half-year for onshore wind since 2017
- Category: Industry News
In the first half of 2025, 409 new onshore wind turbines were installed in Germany, adding 2.2 GW of capacity—the highest figure since 2017. At the same time, new permits were granted for 7.8 GW of wind capacity, marking a record high for a first half-year. The trend continues a positive trajectory: installations rose 67% compared to the same period in 2024, permitting volume increased by 55%, and average permitting times dropped by over 20% to 18 months.
Wind and wave testing facility enables large-scale floating wind research
- Category: Projects and Contracts
DTU Wind and Energy Systems and DHI have jointly developed and tested an open-jet wind generator designed for floating wind turbine experiments. In combination with DHI’s wave basin, the facility enables testing of floating wind turbines in the +20 MW class under combined wind and wave conditions, including turbulence. During a recent spring test campaign, the system’s performance was documented and used to evaluate a design variant of the TetraSub floating foundation developed by Stiesdal Offshore. The wind generator comprises 25 synchronised fans that collectively reproduce the turbulent wind inflow experienced offshore, allowing turbulence to be physically recreated in a controlled laboratory environment.

UK government announces reforms to the CfD scheme for Allocation Round 7
- Category: Industry News
The UK government has published its response to the consultation on reforms to the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme ahead of Allocation Round 7 (AR7), which is scheduled to open in summer 2025. The changes are intended to help deliver the aims of the Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, which sets out the pathway for low-carbon electricity generation towards the end of the decade. Several key reforms have been introduced that affect onshore wind, offshore wind and floating offshore wind, with the aim of increasing deployment while maintaining value for money for consumers.
Call for urgent action on offshore wind development in Spain
- Category: Industry News
The Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE) and the Offshore Wind Forum are urging the government to publish the long-delayed ministerial order needed to launch Spain’s first offshore wind auction and to set a clear regulatory roadmap. Spain risks losing investment, industrial opportunities, and up to 7,500 jobs to countries like Portugal, France and Morocco, which are advancing their offshore wind sectors. Despite having strong industrial capacity, suitable zones, and infrastructure, Spain has seen no progress since Royal Decree 962/2024 was passed nearly a year ago.
RWE completes monopile installation at Sofia offshore wind farm
- Category: Projects and Contracts
RWE has completed installation of the 100th and final monopile foundation at the 1.4 GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm. The foundation campaign, which began in May 2024, was carried out over 14 months by Van Oord under an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract covering turbine foundations and array cables.
