Montrose Port on Scotland’s Angus coast has been selected by SSE as the preferred location for the operations and maintenance base for the planned 1.4 GW Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm. The new base at Montrose Port’s South Harbour is expected to create 100 full-time jobs, including technician and engineering roles supporting the wind farm’s offshore operations throughout its expected operational life of more than 35 years.
Around 30 construction jobs will also be supported during the redevelopment of Montrose Port Authority’s existing offices, which will be repurposed for the new operations base.
Located in the outer Firth of Forth, about 38 kilometres off Scotland’s east coast, Berwick Bank B forms part of SSE’s wider 4.1 GW Berwick Bank Wind Farm project. In January, SSE secured a 20-year contract for 1.4 GW of offshore wind generation from Berwick Bank B in Allocation Round 7 of the UK government’s Contracts for Difference scheme.
SSE is progressing the project towards a Final Investment Decision, which is expected in 2027.
