Dajin Heavy Industry has selected the Ulstein HX122 design, featuring the U-STERN hull solution, for an offshore installation vessel. The vessel has been designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions in the Netherlands and is intended for installing monopiles, jacket foundations and offshore substations for offshore wind projects.
The project expands Dajin’s activities from manufacturing, logistics and transportation into offshore installation. The company plans to add installation capacity to its existing activities and reduce the number of interfaces between different parties during project execution.
The vessel will be capable of installing future 4XL monopiles and can also be used for oil and gas construction and decommissioning projects.
The Ulstein HX122 combines a large working deck, lifting equipment and dynamic positioning with Ulstein’s hull designs. The U-STERN solution allows monopiles to be stored longitudinally and upended along the vessel centreline at the stern. This supports installation operations with the vessel heading into prevailing seas.
Combined with the X-BOW hull design, the concept is intended to improve vessel motion and operability and support a wider weather window for offshore installation campaigns.
