Verlume has completed hyperbaric testing of its Orah subsea enclosure at JFD’s hyperbaric testing facility in Aberdeen. The testing is part of the qualification process for the system ahead of its planned deployment in the Dutch North Sea.
Orah is a 500 kWh modular subsea energy storage system intended to provide grid support for offshore wind farms. The system uses Verlume’s Axonn power management platform to manage generation, storage and demand.
During the test programme, the Orah enclosure was subjected to a controlled pressure profile representing its intended subsea operating environment. The tests covered pressure and depth qualification, enclosure integrity and functional performance under pressure.
The pressure tests assessed the enclosure’s ability to withstand external loads at its intended operating depth, while integrity tests examined the enclosure and its pressure boundary under representative subsea conditions.
The 85-tonne Orah system is intended for deployment at the OranjeWind offshore wind farm, being developed by RWE and TotalEnergies in the Dutch North Sea.
