Stillstrom by Maersk has signed a letter of intent with Semco Maritime for the manufacture and delivery of a local equipment room (LER) for its offshore power and charging system. The LER houses equipment that controls power, communication and safety across the charging infrastructure. It contains the transformer and medium-voltage switchgear used to deliver offshore-generated power from the wind farm to a vessel, as well as communications, ventilation and fire safety equipment.
The containerised unit is designed to be installed on a monopile or hang-off structure at each charging site.
The agreement was signed following completion of the LER design phase by Semco Maritime earlier this year.
Siemens will supply the switchgear and control systems as a subcontractor. A separate letter of intent between Semco Maritime and Siemens was also signed.
Manufacturing of the LER is planned at Semco Maritime’s facility in Esbjerg, Denmark, with completion targeted for spring 2027. Future production could also be supported by Semco Maritime’s facilities in the UK.
Semco Maritime also supported Stillstrom’s recent yard trial, which tested automated cable control while a vessel was operating on dynamic positioning. Semco Maritime set up the test from its Esbjerg facility.
