China added a record 264 GW of new wind and solar capacity in the first half of 2025, twice the level installed in the same period last year, according to Wood Mackenzie. Much of the surge was driven by developers rushing to qualify for the country’s auction-free renewable pricing mechanism before it expired in June.
India prepares new offshore wind tender for Tamil Nadu

India will restart its offshore wind auction process early next year after cancelling two large-scale tenders in 2025. The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy plans to issue a tender for the Tamil Nadu coast in February, following the completion of a wind data assessment by the National Institute of Wind Energy in January.
Ørsted and Apollo agree stake sale in Hornsea 3

Ørsted has signed an agreement to sell a 50 percent stake in the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm in the UK to funds managed by Apollo. The deal includes joint ownership of the project and shared responsibility for future construction payments.

EIB and Iberdrola agree green loan for Windanker offshore wind farm

The European Investment Bank has signed a green loan agreement with Iberdrola for the 315 MW Windanker project in the German Baltic Sea. The financing is backed by a guarantee from the Spanish export credit agency Cesce, the first to be used under a new scheme supporting overseas green projects led by Spanish companies.
OWC supports survey work at Portuguese offshore wind sites

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has appointed OWC to support geophysical and geotechnical surveys at the Leixões and Figueira da Foz wind farm areas. Both sites form part of Portugal’s Allocation Plan for Offshore Renewable Energy.
Orlen secures National Recovery Plan funding for offshore wind projects

Orlen has signed agreements with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for around PLN 3.5 billion in funding from the National Recovery Plan. Of this, PLN 900 million will support the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, with the remainder allocated to the Baltic East project.
BSH approves plan for Nordlicht II offshore wind farm

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has issued the planning approval for Vattenvall's Nordlicht II offshore wind project. Nordlicht Offshore Wind plans to build the wind farm in the German Exclusive Economic Zone in the North Sea, on site N-6.6, more than 84 kilometres from the island of Borkum and at least 96 kilometres from the mainland.
