EST Floattech to supply battery system for Marco Polo Marine CSOVSiemens Energy has contracted EST-Floattech to supply the battery system for a new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) being built by Marco Polo Marine at its shipyard in Batam, Indonesia. Siemens Energy is the system integrator for the vessel’s hybrid power plant. EST-Floattech will supply an Octopus High Energy battery system with a capacity of more than 1 MWh. The system will support the vessel’s hybrid power plant and dynamic positioning (DP) operations.

The CSOV Plus, designed by Salt Ship Design in Norway, is being developed for offshore wind and oil and gas operations. The vessel combines a 100-tonne active heave-compensated crane with a motion-compensated gangway for walk-to-work transfers in significant wave heights of up to 3.0 metres. Its hull and propulsion system are designed for station-keeping operations.

Construction began in Batam in the second quarter of 2026, with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2028.

The Octopus High Energy system will operate alongside the vessel’s generator sets and Siemens Energy’s BlueDrive PlusC system. During DP operations, the batteries will provide spinning reserve and absorb variations in electrical load, reducing the number of generators required and allowing those in operation to run closer to their optimum load.

The vessel has been designed to allow the battery capacity to be increased to 20 MWh in the future, potentially enabling fully electric operation.

Following delivery, the CSOV Plus will be operated by PKR Offshore, Marco Polo Marine’s Taiwan-based subsidiary. The vessel is planned for deployment by Siemens Gamesa under a multi-year framework agreement covering offshore wind projects in Taiwanese waters.
