Iberdrola and Renfe have signed a long-term agreement to promote the use of wind energy in Spain’s electrified rail transport sector. The companies have entered into a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for 370 GWh of onshore wind electricity per year over a 10-year period, equivalent to the output of 190 MW of installed wind capacity.
The agreement supports Renfe’s wider strategy to manage energy costs and reduce exposure to electricity market fluctuations. It also contributes to the company’s decarbonisation and environmental sustainability goals.
