Iberdrola has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Puget Sound Energy in Washington state through its USA subsidiary Avangrid. The agreement supports the supply of renewable electricity from the Big Horn I wind farm in Klickitat County. The facility has a capacity of 199.5 MW and generates enough electricity to supply around 70,000 homes annually.
The agreement expands existing cooperation between Avangrid and Puget Sound Energy, which have previously signed agreements for the Golden Hills, Lund Hill and Klondike III projects in the Pacific Northwest region, representing a combined capacity of more than 600 MW.
Under the agreement, Avangrid will upgrade key components at Big Horn I, which has been operating since 2006, through a repowering programme intended to extend the project’s operating life and improve performance over the next two decades.
The works are expected to create around 200 jobs during construction and the upgraded facility is scheduled to enter operation in 2028.
