KK Group will provide converter control upgrades for 33 GE 1.5 MW turbines operated by a US utility, with the aim of extending the operating life of the existing turbines. Under the project, KK Group will replace the existing converter controllers with its CMC1 Converter Controller. The upgrade is intended to support continued operation and grid compliance while retaining the existing converters and other major turbine components.
The CMC1 manages the conversion and delivery of electricity generated by the turbine to the grid. Replacing the ageing controller while retaining other existing equipment provides a targeted approach to upgrading the turbines without replacing components that remain suitable for operation.
To extend the use of CMC1 across different converter systems, KK Group is working with power electronics specialist Zopf to develop interface technology that allows the controller to integrate with existing converter hardware.
