The first turbine has been installed at the East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm, developed by ScottishPower and Masdar. The project features turbines equipped with 115-metre blades.
All 285 blades for the 14 MW turbines are being manufactured in the United Kingdom at Siemens Gamesa’s facility in Hull. Once completed, the 1.4 GW project is expected to generate enough electricity to supply more than 1.3 million homes.
The installation was carried out by Cadeler’s O-class jack-up vessel Wind Osprey. It will be joined later this month by the P-class vessel Wind Pace, marking its first deployment in European waters as installation activities continue.
