The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) released its WWEA Community Engagement Guidelines. The guidelines provide standards for effective engagement with communities and residents near wind farms.
In recent years, it has become clear that strong community engagement—including transparent communication and equitable benefit sharing—supports wind sector growth by building broad social support. Engagement is recommended across all project phases, from early planning through construction, operation and, where applicable, decommissioning. The guidelines were drafted by the WWEA Community Engagement Council, which includes practitioners from around the world, such as Enercon (Germany), Eolica (Brazil), EVK (Germany), HellwegWind (Germany), Renewable Resources (Pakistan), Windey (China), Windpark Druiberg (Germany), Windplus (India), and individual advisor Monica Oliphant (Australia).
Drawing on this diverse expertise, the WWEA Community Engagement Guidelines set out standards designed to support wind farm development globally.
