The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) has reinforced its cooperation with the International Renewable Energy Agency during the agency’s annual General Assembly in Abu Dhabi. The meeting brought together IRENA member states and non-governmental observers at a time when renewable energy investment continues to shape global energy markets.
WWEA has supported the establishment and work of the International Renewable Energy Agency for more than 20 years and maintains close institutional links with the organisation. At the General Assembly, WWEA was represented by President Dr Irfan Mirza, Secretary General Stefan Gsänger, Vice Presidents Dr Karunamoorthy and Zeeshan Ashfaq, with Dr Ibrahim Togola participating virtually.
As part of the annual meeting of the Coalition for Action, IRENA’s main platform for cooperation with non-governmental stakeholders, new task forces were approved. Stefan Gsänger was elected to the Coalition for Action Steering Group, further strengthening WWEA’s role within IRENA-related processes.
Against the background of the need to accelerate renewable energy deployment globally, WWEA underlined the importance of continued international cooperation among organisations supporting renewable energy, particularly in light of recent geopolitical developments affecting multilateral energy institutions.
