The World Wind Energy Association has announced the recipients of the 2025 World Wind Energy Award. The award will be shared by Shantou International Wind Energy Innovation Port, Mr Shi Lishan and Mr Bi Yaxiong for their contributions to the development of wind power in China and internationally.
Shantou International Wind Energy Innovation Port is a major industrial site that brings together turbine and component manufacturing at a single location. The project uses a clustered approach, supports research with large scientific facilities and maintains links with international partners. Its approach is presented as offering practical examples for industrial development and technology progress in the wind sector.
Mr Shi Lishan served as Director of the New Energy Division at the National Energy Administration from 2002. He led the drafting of the Renewable Energy Law and helped establish policies that supported the expansion of wind energy in China. He continued to work on regulatory improvements during a period of rapid growth in the sector and remains active in renewable energy work.
Mr Bi Yaxiong has held senior positions in grid companies and wind development firms. He has played a role in large offshore wind projects, grid reform and the integration of higher levels of wind power. His previous roles include vice president of China Southern Power Grid Company and vice president of China Three Gorges Company.
