Palfinger Marine will supply fully electric jib cranes for the substations of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms off the Polish coast. Each substation will be equipped with two DKJ500e cranes, built at Palfinger Marine’s facility in Gdynia, Poland.
The DKJ500e model, with a safe working load of 5 tonnes at 28 metres outreach, is an evolution of the company’s electric offshore jib cranes originally developed for the oil and gas sector, and can be operated remotely.
Alongside the electric jib cranes, Palfinger Marine will also provide six PF160 cranes for the substations, each capable of lifting 2 tonnes at a significant wave height of two metres in single-line operation.
The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms will each comprise 50 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD turbines, delivering 720 MW per project. Located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, about 37 and 22 kilometres from Ustka and Łeba respectively, each turbine will also feature PF120 platform cranes previously contracted from Palfinger Marine.
