Sonfor has taken a majority stake in the company behind the Lillebælt Syd wind farm in Denmark and is assessing options for continuing the project with a new operating partner. The move follows TotalEnergies’ decision earlier this summer to withdraw from two wind projects, including Lillebælt Syd, to focus on other activities. European Energy will remain a minority partner in the project.
The change in ownership means that Sonfor will appoint two members to the board, while European Energy will appoint one. A new managing director will also be appointed. Sonfor is starting a process to identify potential new partners to establish and operate the wind farm.
The project’s business case and partnership structure will be reviewed in light of changing market conditions for wind power. Sonfor said the process is expected to be completed by the end of June 2027.
Sonfor received approval for the acquisition of the majority stake at an extraordinary general meeting on 21 August. The project has an establishment permit and is being assessed as a potential source of additional renewable electricity for the Sønderborg area.
