Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) has filed the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for its wind-to-green hydrogen and ammonia project in Central Newfoundland, Canada.
The EIS was prepared in accordance with guidelines issued by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Environment and Climate Change and incorporates technical, environmental and socio-economic studies completed as part of the provincial environmental assessment process.
The project is expected to include more than 3 GW of onshore wind generation, supported by energy storage and associated infrastructure. At full capacity, it is expected to produce around 180,000 tonnes per year of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) hydrogen or up to 1 million tonnes per year of RFNBO ammonia for export markets.
The EIS assesses potential environmental impacts during the construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning phases of the project. The assessment covers factors including wildlife, vegetation, water resources, air quality, land use and socio-economic impacts, and outlines proposed mitigation measures where required.
EVREC is also continuing front-end engineering and design (FEED) work, commercial structuring activities and discussions with prospective offtake partners in international markets.
