WindEurope report outlines growth and skills needs in Europe’s wind workforce

Europe’s wind energy sector continues to expand its workforce, according to the European Wind Energy Workforce Report published by WindEurope. The report estimates that employment in the sector could increase from 443,000 jobs today to more than 600,000 by 2030.
Jan De Nul completes 2025 cable installation campaign at Tennet's Dolwin kappa offshore substation

Jan De Nul has completed the 2025 transport and installation campaign for three high voltage alternating current grid connection cables at TenneT’s DolWin kappa offshore converter station in the German North Sea. Once fully commissioned, the cables will enable the transmission of almost 660 MW of renewable electricity from offshore wind farms to the grid.
Asso.subsea awarded cable installation and protection contracts for Balwin and Lanwin projects

Asso.subsea has been awarded multiple contracts by Nexans for subsea cable installation and protection works linked to TenneT’s 2 GW offshore transmission programme in the German North Sea. The contracts cover the BalWin3, LanWin2 and LanWin4 projects, with offshore campaigns planned between 2027 and 2031.
AGL Energy and partners discontinue gippsland skies offshore wind project

AGL Energy and its project partners have decided to discontinue development of the Gippsland Skies offshore wind project off the coast of Victoria, Australia and have surrendered the project’s feasibility licence. The Gippsland Skies project was planned as a 2.5 GW offshore wind development located around 30 kilometres south of Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.
Maryland issues offshore wind power procurement invitation

The state of Maryland has launched a new procurement process for offshore wind power, issuing an invitation for bids through the Department of General Services Office of State Procurement. The invitation, published on 9 December, seeks developers willing to enter into a power purchase agreement with the state for a minimum term of 20 years.
Jumbo Offshore awarded transition piece transport and installation contracts

Jumbo Offshore has announced the award of two contracts covering the transport and installation of transition pieces for an upcoming undisclosed offshore wind farm project. The company will install the transition pieces using one of its two DP2 heavy lift vessels during the offshore installation campaigns.
Draftec commissions oval loading arm for subsea cable handling

Draftec has commissioned a new Oval Loading Arm following a period of development and testing. The system is designed for coiling subsea power cables into both round and oval basket configurations and can accommodate cable diameters of up to 400 millimetres with linear weights of up to 90 kilograms per metre.
Qair submits offshore consent application for Ayre Offshore Wind Farm

The developer of Ayre Offshore Wind Farm has submitted an offshore consent application to the Scottish Government Marine Directorate. Ayre Offshore Wind Farm is being developed by Qair and is located to the east of Orkney.
Electrical Oil Services fills large transformers for the Celtic Interconnector project

Electrical Oil Services has completed the filling of four large transformers as part of the Celtic Interconnector project, which will link the electricity systems of Ireland and France. Each transformer was filled with around 75,000 litres of insulating oil at a substation in Brittany, France.
Norway to award Utsira Nord floating wind areas to Equinor, Vårgrønn and Harald Hårfagre

The Ministry of Energy in Norway has evaluated the two applications for project areas for floating offshore wind in Utsira Nord and confirmed that each applicant will receive an individual area. Both applications met the qualification requirements and provided satisfactory responses to the qualitative criteria. As a result, each group will be awarded one project area.
