Ofgem has announced plans to speed up the process for connecting cheaper, cleaner power to the UK electricity grid. A new system, which could be in place by spring 2025, would replace the current first-come, first-served approach that has left some clean energy and storage projects waiting a decade or more for grid access.

The New York State Public Service Commission has granted final approval for Empire Offshore Wind’s petition to construct and operate the offshore and onshore transmission facilities for the Empire Wind 1 Offshore Wind Project. The approved phase includes construction work within Con Edison’s Gowanus substation property, covering excavation, installation of duct banks, cable pulling, site restoration, and associated decommissioning.

Germany launches wind and ocean measurement campaign 280 km from shore

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has launched a multi-year measurement campaign, MeteOR, in collaboration with the German Weather Service (DWD) and Fugro Norway. The initiative supports Germany’s goal of reaching 70GW of offshore wind capacity by 2045 by collecting data on wind and sea conditions in an area approximately 280 kilometres off the North Sea coast.

The Norwegian Ministry of Energy has announced that the Sørvest F area will not be tendered for offshore wind development in 2025. A report from Statnett indicates that offshore wind projects would require government subsidies regardless of the chosen grid solution. Instead of pursuing a hybrid grid connection for Sørvest F, the government will focus on floating offshore wind projects with radial connections.
