Enercon has updated the declared annual energy production (AEP) of its E-175 EP5 E2 wind turbine by 5.5% compared with the initial baseline, without increasing its rated power. The revised assessment follows field validation, additional operating experience and further development of operating strategies. Enercon previously reported a 2.8% AEP increase and has now added a further 2.7%.

The update is based on operating data collected from turbines in the field. At the turbine's market launch, Enercon used conservative assumptions for its performance figures. The larger data set now allows the turbine's energy yield potential to be assessed more precisely, although actual AEP will vary depending on site conditions.

Several factors contribute to the revised assessment, including field validation, optimised operating strategies and new technological functions. One of these is individual pitch control (IPC), which enables more precise control of the individual rotor blades and can improve power output under different site and operating conditions.

The higher AEP level requires an upgrade incorporating these technologies and functions. The upgrade is not included in the standard scope of supply and is available as a paid option for new orders.

As the additional energy yield is achieved without increasing rated power, the update can provide greater energy production while retaining the existing power class. This may simplify project planning where grid connection and system design are based on a defined power class.
