Q Energy France has reached a repowering development portfolio of over 1 GW after signing a new 300 MW partnership with Nadara. The projects form part of the growing effort to modernise France’s ageing wind fleet, much of which is approaching the end of its 20-year operational lifespan.
Industry estimates suggest that around 5.8 GW of installed capacity could be repowered by early 2025, requiring the dismantling of roughly 3,400 turbines over the next seven years. Q Energy began its repowering work in 2016, starting with the Souleilla-Corbières wind farm in Treilles, Occitanie. Since then, it has entered into five repowering partnerships totalling more than 1 GW, with approximately 200 MW already permitted. Following the completion of the Souleilla-Corbières repowering in 2023, the company is now rebuilding the Cuxac wind farm in Cuxac-Cabardès and undertaking a more complex repowering of the Marsanne site in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, where turbines are being relocated outside the original site boundaries.
