Eiffage, through Smulders (Eiffage Métal’s Belgian subsidiary), has been awarded an EPCIC contract by RTE, France’s transmission system operator, for the design and construction of three alternating current substations. The substations will serve the Bretagne Sud (AO5), Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault and Golfe de Fos (AO6) offshore wind farms, as well as their planned extensions (A09).

The contract includes the construction of jacket foundations and topside structures housing the electrical equipment. For the Bretagne Sud project, the jackets will be about 115 metres high, 25 metres wide and 35 metres long. For the Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault and Golfe de Fos projects, the jackets will measure approximately 110 metres in height, 45 metres in width and 50 metres in length. The topside structures will weigh around 5,000 tonnes and measure over 20 metres high, 35 metres wide and 70 metres long.

Each substation will have a capacity of 750 MW, together connecting more than 2 GW of electricity to the French grid. All components will be manufactured in the facilities of Smulders and its industrial partners across France and Europe. The jackets will be assembled at Eiffage Métal’s site in Fos-sur-Mer, while the topsides will be assembled in Vlissingen, the Netherlands.
