Xcel Energy will provide power to a new Google data center in Pine Island, Minnesota, USA. The companies are collaborating to add 1,900 MW of clean energy to the grid. Google will cover any new grid infrastructure costs, working with Xcel Energy to maintain reliable and affordable electricity for all customers.
The Clean Energy Accelerator Charge will fund 1,400 MW of wind, 200 MW of solar, and 300 MW of long-duration energy storage, including a 300 MW (30 GWh) Form Energy iron-air battery system. The agreement also includes a $50 million investment in Xcel Energy’s Capacity*Connect Program to support grid reliability. The Electric Service Agreement will be submitted to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for approval in the coming weeks.
