Vineyard Wind has filed a lawsuit against GE Renewables in a Massachusetts court, seeking to prevent the termination of turbine supply and service agreements for the Vineyard Wind 1 offshore project. The developer is requesting declaratory and injunctive relief, including a temporary restraining order, after GE issued a termination notice in February 2026 citing unpaid amounts under the contracts.
Vineyard Wind disputes the claim, arguing that it has exercised contractual rights to withhold payments linked to defects and delays. The 806 MW project, located off the coast of Massachusetts, has faced delays following a turbine blade failure in 2024 and subsequent replacement works. According to the filing, most installed blades required replacement, contributing to a prolonged construction timeline.
Vineyard Wind maintains that GE remains a critical contractor for commissioning and servicing the turbines, and that termination at this stage would significantly affect project completion. The company also states that ongoing disputes over payments and liabilities are subject to contractual mechanisms, which it says have not been fully resolved.
The case was filed on 8 April 2026 in Suffolk Superior Court. Vineyard Wind is seeking a court order requiring GE to continue performing under the existing agreements while the dispute is addressed.
