The Morecambe and Mona offshore wind projects have entered into lease with The Crown Estate, around three years after securing seabed rights in Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4. Located in the Irish Sea, the projects were awarded seabed rights in 2021 and have been under Agreements for Lease since 2023. Together, they have a combined capacity of nearly 2 GW.
The Crown Estate also confirmed that it is working through arrangements for the Morgan offshore wind project following the decision by JERA Nex bp and EnBW not to continue with the project. The organisation is reviewing options and will provide a market update in due course.
The Morecambe offshore wind project has a nominal capacity of 480 MW and is located around 30 km from the Lancashire coast in the eastern Irish Sea. When completed, it is expected to comprise up to 35 fixed-bottom turbines. The project received its Development Consent Order for the generation assets in December 2025. On behalf of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Copenhagen Offshore Partners is leading the development and construction of the project.
The Crown Estate stated that it continues to work closely with the remaining Round 4 projects as they progress through the consenting process.
