EDF Renewables and Goldwind have signed a contract associated with the reactivation of a wind tower manufacturing facility in Jacobina, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The restart of the Jacobina facility is intended to support the local production of wind turbine towers and strengthen the regional supply chain for onshore wind projects in north-eastern Brazil.
According to the Government of Bahia, the reactivation of the factory forms part of a broader strategy to consolidate Bahia as a centre for renewable energy manufacturing and project development. The initiative is expected to contribute to industrial activity and employment while improving the availability of locally manufactured components for wind energy projects.
The project is supported by fiscal incentives established through a protocol of intentions signed between Goldwind and the Government of Bahia in March 2023. The initiative also includes the development of a supplier ecosystem for wind components, involving multiple companies active in the sector.
Goldwind has expanded its manufacturing presence in Bahia in recent years. In August 2024, the company inaugurated a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Camaçari, marking its first production site outside China. The facility produces turbines for the Brazilian market and supports localisation requirements in project development.
