ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar have completed the installation of all 95 foundations for the 1.4GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm off the Suffolk coast. The monopiles weigh between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes, stand 67–84 metres tall and have a diameter of up to 10.6 metres. All 95 transition pieces have also been installed. Each is 20 metres high, 8 metres in diameter and weighs more than 400 tonnes.
Turbine installation is already under way, while offshore and onshore construction will continue over the coming months. The project is scheduled to become fully operational by the end of 2026. Seaway7 carried out the foundation installation using its jack-up vessel Seaway Ventus.
East Anglia Three is being developed by ScottishPower Renewables and Masdar and is the second project under Masdar and Iberdrola’s €15 billion strategic partnership. The project includes almost £2 billion of investment in the UK supply chain. Companies involved include Wood Thilsted, which provided foundation design services; Siemens Gamesa, which is manufacturing the turbine blades at its Hull factory; Norfolk-based NR Marine Services and OEG, which are providing vessel charter services; and Partrac, which is supporting the project with metocean and seabed consultancy services.
