RWE has received planning approval for the Nordseecluster B offshore wind project in the German North Sea. The permit was granted by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), enabling the second phase of the wider Nordseecluster development.
Nordseecluster is located around 46 km north of Borkum and 50 km north of Juist. The first phase, Nordseecluster A, is currently under construction with a capacity of 660 MW. Foundation installation has been completed, and installation of 44 turbines is scheduled to begin in summer 2026. Grid connection is expected in early 2027.
The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add a further 900 MW of capacity. Manufacturing of some components is already underway. Installation of foundations is planned to start in 2027, followed by turbine installation in 2028. Commercial operations are expected to begin in early 2029.
Nordseecluster is being developed as a joint project between RWE, which holds a 51% stake, and Norges Bank Investment Management with 49%. RWE is responsible for construction and long-term operation of the wind farms.
