Natural Power has secured a contract under its framework agreement with SSEN Transmission to provide ground investigation services for the onshore section of the Eastern Green Link 5 (EGL5) high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable route.
The contract covers ground investigation works along the proposed onshore HVDC cable route between Aberdeenshire and Lincolnshire. The work will provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental data to support the design and development of the transmission infrastructure, which will have the capacity to transfer up to 2 GW of electricity.
Planning and preparation are under way, with physical works scheduled to begin towards the end of August 2026. The contract is the first call-off under the new ground investigation framework between Natural Power and SSEN Transmission.
EGL5 is part of investment in the UK's electricity transmission network aimed at increasing network capacity and enabling renewable electricity to be transferred to areas where it is needed.
