SSE has appointed Aberdeen-based Seaway7, part of the Subsea7 group, as preferred supplier for infrastructure works at its 1.4 GW Berwick Bank B offshore wind project. The appointment is expected to support 465 jobs across the UK, including 400 in Scotland. The roles are associated with Seaway7’s engineering, procurement, construction and installation scope under a preferred supplier agreement. This brings the total number of jobs created or supported by the Berwick Bank project across the UK to around 600, including more than 500 in Scotland.
Seaway7 will design, supply and install offshore wind turbine foundations and subsea inter-array cables for Berwick Bank B, which is planned for construction in the outer Firth of Forth, around 38 km off the Scottish Borders coastline.
An estimated 160 direct roles will be based at Seaway7, with the work led from its Aberdeen office. A further 105 indirect roles are expected to be supported through the UK supply chain. Another 200 direct and indirect jobs are expected to arise from turbine foundation marshalling activities at a Scottish port. SSE and Seaway7 will announce the port location in due course. The appointment remains subject to a final contract award and SSE’s final investment decision on Berwick Bank B, which is expected late next year.
