Image Alex Woodward for ZX Lidars and Finley Becks Phelps for Nadara announcing the agreement 002ZX Lidars has confirmed that Nadara has selected the ZX 300e wind lidar to support its wind repowering programme in the United Kingdom. The agreement covers the delivery of a wind lidar fleet under a turnkey scope that includes field services and operational support from ZX Measurement Services, together with ZX Power systems designed for long-term standalone operation.

The lidar units will provide direct wind measurements at future hub heights to support technical and financial assessments linked to repowering decisions. The United Kingdom onshore wind sector is entering a new repowering phase as a growing share of operational projects approaches or exceeds original design life. Planning, grid and land-use limitations are also increasing the focus on repowering existing sites where feasible.

Modern repowering projects typically involve higher hub heights and larger rotor diameters compared with earlier turbine generations. Historic wind measurement campaigns often do not cover the vertical range required for current turbine designs, placing greater emphasis on wind shear, wind veer and vertical wind profile analysis.

Standalone wind lidar is therefore being adopted more widely in the United Kingdom to enable direct measurements across the full rotor-swept area at proposed repowering heights.
