Seatrium GE Vernova and TenneT strike steel for 2GW Nederwiek 2 offshore grid platform in the NetherlandsSeatrium, GE Vernova and TenneT have marked the steel cutting for the third offshore platform linked to the 2GW offshore wind programme, Nederwiek 2. The three 2GW offshore platforms delivered by the Seatrium–GE Vernova consortium are now progressing at different construction stages. The first project, IJmuiden Ver Beta, reached steel cutting on 11 September 2024, followed by IJmuiden Ver Gamma on 14 May 2025.

Once commissioned in 2029, the first grid connection will enable the transmission of up to 2GW of electricity from the IJmuiden Ver Beta wind farm in the North Sea. Additional grid connections are scheduled to follow in subsequent years.

The high-voltage direct current transmission systems will link the offshore wind farms off the Dutch coast with the high-voltage grid on land. Electricity generated offshore will be transported as alternating current through a 66 kV array cable system to the offshore converter platform, where it will be converted into direct current. Power will then be transmitted to shore through 525 kV export cables to the onshore converter stations at Maasvlakte Rotterdam. At this location, electricity will be converted back into alternating current and fed into the high-voltage grid.
