The steel structure that will support ScottishPower Renewables’ high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore converter station has been installed in the southern North Sea. The four-legged jacket foundation, weighing about 3,700 tonnes and standing 59 metres high, is now fixed to the seabed 69 kilometres off the Suffolk coast at a water depth of 36 metres.
Installation was carried out by Heerema Marine Contractors’ SSCV Sleipnir, following its departure from Aker Solutions’ Verdal fabrication yard in Norway. Once operational at the end of 2026, the 1.4 GW East Anglia Three wind farm will be the largest offshore wind project within the Iberdrola. Support for the installation was provided by the tugs Bylgia, Skandi Handler and EEMS Wrangler, along with the guard vessel Tess.
