Boskalis has secured two contracts for the transportation and installation of export and array cables at the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland. The contracts were awarded by the joint venture of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Ørsted, developers of the project.
The scope covers the transport and installation of 107 array cables with a combined length of more than 150 kilometres, as well as four 275 kV export cables totalling nearly 300 kilometres. Boskalis will also carry out seabed preparation, including seabed levelling, pre-trenching and boulder removal. After installation, the cables and protection systems will be stabilised with rock placement. Preparatory works are set to begin in 2025, with transport and installation scheduled for 2027.
The company will deploy two cable-laying vessels, a construction support vessel, a subsea rock installation vessel and a trailing suction hopper dredger. The cables will be installed in pre-cut trenches using the multi-mode Megalodon plough operated from the construction support vessel Falcon.
Baltica 2, with a planned capacity of up to 1.5 GW, is located about 40 kilometres off the Polish coast between Łeba and Ustka.
