Nexans has formed a partnership with Crowley Wind Services to develop and operate a Jones Act compliant cable lay barge. The 300‑foot U.S.-flagged barge was built in Louisiana and tested in the Gulf of Mexico to Nexans’ specifications. It will be operated by Crowley with American mariners.
The barge has a 3,500‑ton capacity carousel for laying and burying subsea cables using tools such as a vertical injector, jet sled, or jetting remotely operated vehicle. It can be upgraded to 7,000 tons with two carousels for bundled cable laying and burial.
The vessel is expected to support Equinor’s Empire Wind offshore wind project for New York and can also be configured for cable installation or repair on other subsea projects. It will complement Nexans’ fleet of cable laying vessels, including Nexans CLV Aurora, Nexans C/S Skagerrak and Nexans CLV Electra.
