Researchers at Delft University of Technology have received funding through the NWO Open Technology Programme to develop a computational framework for the design of innovative monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines in deep waters. The RAPID-Wind (Real-time Analysis and Prediction of Innovative Monopile Designs for Next-generation Wind Turbines in Deep Waters) project aims to improve monopile foundation design as offshore wind farms move into deeper waters, where structures are exposed to greater wind and wave loads.
The research will combine adaptive computational methods with high-performance computing to increase the speed and accuracy of structural simulations. The resulting data will be used to develop reduced-order models that support more efficient optimisation of monopile foundation designs.
The project aims to enable more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable monopile foundations for future offshore wind developments.
The NWO Open Technology Programme supports application-oriented technical and scientific research across disciplinary boundaries. It also enables companies and other organisations to participate in research with potential scientific and societal benefits.
