Envision Energy has confirmed that its latest two-blade onshore turbine prototype has completed over 500 days of stable operation, achieving an availability rate of 99.3%, a mean time between failures of 2,444 hours, and the equivalent of 3,048 full-load hours per year. Field data indicates that its performance is comparable to three-blade turbines operating at the same location.
The turbine is based on Envision’s Model X onshore platform and features a modular structure and high-speed doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) technology with improved stability.
Envision began work on two-blade turbine designs over a decade ago. In 2012, its Global Innovation Center in Denmark developed a 3.6MW offshore two-blade prototype known as the "Game Changer", which was installed in 2013. This early project provided operational insights that informed the development of Envision’s current two-blade platform.
The prototype underwent a series of technical tests and field trials at the company’s wind power verification centre. The testing programme included full-system loading trials across a range of operating conditions to assess reliability and performance in preparation for future deployment.
