China Three Gorges has submitted a patent application to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) for an integrated offshore wind power system that combines energy generation with subsea data centres and marine ranching.
The design outlines a system linking offshore wind turbines, seabed data centres, marine ranches, an offshore platform, submarine cables, and an onshore substation. The turbines and platform are positioned above sea level, while the ranches operate in the water column and the data centres are located on the seabed. Connections are made using cables running through turbine sleeves and submarine cables to the onshore substation.
The turbines supply power to the data centres and marine ranches, with surplus electricity routed to shore via the offshore platform. Waste heat from the data centres is directed to the ranches to support their operations.
