London Offshore Consultants (LOC) has provided Barge Master and GustoMSC with an approval in principle for the work method of their Steady Top Feeder solution. Barge Master and GustoMSC asked LOC to act as if they were appointed as the marine warranty surveyor of an offshore wind project and on that basis to assess whether the solution of the Steady Top Feeder is in principle acceptable to them.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has made an agreement with the Seafox International Group for the acquisition of a 51% ownership in the jack-up vessel Seafox 5. By this move Fred. Olsen Windcarrier will include this vessel under its commercial, technical and administrative management as an integral part of their fleet of jack-up vessels for offshore wind.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark will lead the new i4Offshore research and development project focused on reducing the cost of offshore wind power. The i4Offshore project, which is based on classical engineering disciplines such as structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, production and risk analysis, will test a complete installation of a future version of a full-scale Siemens Gamesa offshore turbine.

Three 20 meter long rotor blades that were developed within the context of the SmartBlades2 project will be assessed under natural weather and wind conditions in Boulder, Colorado (USA), over the next four months. For this purpose, the rotor blades, which were designed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) and built by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR), have been installed in the USA at the Department of Energy's National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
