RWE has reached a milestone in the construction of the 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea: 36 of the 72 monopile foundations have now been installed. The monopiles were transported from the heavy-lift terminal in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, to the Thor site approximately 22 kilometres off the west coast of Jutland.
Installation is being carried out by the vessel *Les Alizés*, with five monopiles transported per shipment. Each foundation measures around 100 metres in length and weighs up to 1,500 tonnes.
Secondary steel structures, including boat landings and internal and external platforms, are managed from the Port of Thyborøn, which serves as the construction base. A marine coordination centre for logistics and traffic during the offshore phase is also located there. To protect the installed monopiles from marine conditions until turbine installation begins next year, reused hard covers will be applied.
The Thor offshore wind farm, with a total capacity of 1,080 MW, is a joint project between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). RWE is responsible for construction and long-term operations.
