Fugro has signed a seven-year framework agreement with EirGrid, Ireland’s electricity transmission operator, to carry out Geo-data surveys for the “Powering Up Offshore – South Coast” project. The programme will support the development of offshore substations and export cable routes to connect wind farms off Ireland’s southern coastline to the national grid.
Fugro’s scope includes desktop studies, and geophysical, environmental and geotechnical surveys. The resulting integrated ground model will help inform infrastructure design and reduce environmental impact.
Survey operations are expected to start in July 2025 with geophysical and environmental investigations. The area covers onshore, intertidal, nearshore and offshore zones, requiring a range of survey platforms. Fugro will use vessels including Fugro Seeker and Kommander Iona, as well as jack-up barges in shallow water.
The company is collaborating with Irish suppliers for services such as metocean measurements and drone-based aerial surveys to support local engagement.
