The first wind turbines for the Vaðölduver project have arrived in Iceland, marking the transition from planning and civil works to turbine installation. The initial shipment of turbines from Enercon in Germany recently arrived at the port of Þorlákshöfn.
Transport of the components to the Vaðölduver site, near the Sultartangi hydropower station in southern Iceland, is scheduled to begin in early May, with final deliveries expected by the end of June.
The Vaðölduver wind farm will have an installed capacity of 120 MW and is expected to become Iceland’s first commercial-scale wind energy project. Operations are planned to start in 2026–2027.
COWI is supporting Landsvirkjun with site supervision, engineering oversight and coordination during delivery and installation of the wind farm.
