Dogger Bank C completes HVDC offshore substation platform installationDogger Bank Wind Farm and its partners have completed the installation of the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore substation platform at Dogger Bank C, marking the final substation installation across all three phases of the project.

The Dogger Bank C platform was manufactured and supplied by Aibel and installed using Heerema Marine Contractors’ Sleipnir vessel. The topside structure measures approximately 75 by 50 metres and stands 36 metres high. It is mounted on a four-legged steel jacket foundation, fixed to the seabed at an average depth of 23 metres.

The topside installation followed the successful placement of the platform jacket, completed a week earlier. Commissioning activities will now begin to prepare the platform for power transmission.

Each substation platform will receive up to 1.2 GW of alternating current (AC) from the offshore turbines, convert it to direct current (DC), and transmit it to onshore converter stations located near Beverley in East Riding of Yorkshire and near Redcar on Teesside. The platforms are designed for remote operation and are accessed only via Service Operations Vessels.

Dogger Bank Wind Farm is being developed in three 1.2 GW phases—Dogger Bank A, B and C—as a joint venture between SSE Renewables (40%), Equinor (40%), and Vårgrønn.
