Aurora Energy Services has acquired Encomara, a UK-based specialist in floating wind deployment systems and subsea engineering. The acquisition includes investment to support the deployment of Encomara’s mooring connection technology, particularly its Squid system—an integrated quick-connect unit for pre-installed mooring and electrical connections in a modular subsea format.
Encomara’s team will relocate to Aurora House in Dyce, Aberdeen, and retain its brand and product identity. Its consultancy division will continue to operate independently, offering specialist advice in floating wind, mooring systems and subsea field development.
The deal includes the integration of Encomara’s leadership team into Aurora’s executive structure. Executive Chairman Ian Donald and Chief Executive Raymond Semple will join Aurora’s board, with Semple appointed as Chief Operating Officer and based in Houston. Chief Technology Officer Malcolm Bowie will remain in his role under Aurora.
Aurora’s current COO, Tom Smith, will transition to Regional Director for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, continuing as a member of the executive board.
Ian Donald brings over 40 years of experience in subsea field development, with previous roles at Venture, Apache and Neptune, and as founder of Enpro Subsea and DES Operations. Raymond Semple adds three decades of operational leadership, having served as COO of Technip North America and Brazil, and more recently leading Baker Hughes’ Subsea Production Systems business.
