Van Oord’s offshore wind installation vessel Boreas has completed the installation of 45 monopiles at Nordseecluster A, the first phase of the 1.6 GW offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The remaining 60 monopiles will be installed during the second phase, Nordseecluster B, which is scheduled for 2027. In addition to the Boreas, Van Oord deployed its installation vessel Aeolus for secondary steel installation. The flexible fallpipe vessels Stornes and Bravenes carried out rock installation around the monopile foundations to prevent erosion caused by strong currents and waves.
Van Oord is responsible for installing a total of 105 extended monopiles for the Nordseecluster project, a joint venture between RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).
