Mammoet has signed an agreement with Seatrium to execute the load-out of three offshore substations for TenneT’s 2 GW offshore grid connection programme in the North Sea. The programme will connect large-scale offshore wind farms to the European mainland.
The wider project includes 15 high-voltage direct current offshore grid connection systems to be installed by 2032, with eight located in the Netherlands and seven in Germany. Each system will have a capacity of 2 GW. Seatrium will undertake topside fabrication across several international yards. Each topside is expected to weigh more than 30,000 tonnes. Mammoet will manage the movement and load-out of the platforms using specialist skidding systems to transfer them between land and sea-going vessels. Hydraulically compensated skidding equipment will be used to support precise movement and reduce structural deflection during transfer.
