The Kitakyushu Hibikinada offshore wind farm, also known as Wind KitaQ 25, has commenced commercial operation on 2 March 2026. The project was awarded to Hibiki Wind Energy in February 2017 following a public tender by Kitakyushu City for offshore wind farm installation and operation in the Hibikinada area. Construction began in March 2023.
The wind farm comprises 25 turbines, each with a capacity of 9.6 MW, giving a total installed capacity of 220 MW. It is expected to generate approximately 500 million kWh annually and will operate for 20 years. At commissioning, it is Japan’s largest offshore wind farm.
The project is located offshore in Hibikinada, Wakamatsu Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and involves shareholders including Kyuden Mirai Energy Co., Electric Power Development Co., Hokutaku Corporation, Seibu Gas Co., and Craftia Co.
