Asso.subsea has been awarded multiple contracts by Nexans for subsea cable installation and protection works linked to TenneT’s 2 GW offshore transmission programme in the German North Sea. The contracts cover the BalWin3, LanWin2 and LanWin4 projects, with offshore campaigns planned between 2027 and 2031.
Under the agreements, Asso.subsea will carry out more than 650 kilometres of offshore cable burial and over 60 kilometres of nearshore cable laying and burial. The offshore works will be executed using the cable laying vessel Atalanti, which has been adapted with a modified turntable system to handle a four cable bundle configuration. This configuration comprises two 525 kilovolt high voltage direct current poles, one metallic return cable and one fibre optic submarine cable.
The company will also deploy vessels from its trenching support fleet, including Avra, which is under construction and is expected to enter service from the first quarter of 2028.
The scope of work includes jetting and mechanical trenching to achieve the specified burial depths, supported by as laid and as buried survey activities. These operations will use AssoTrencher IV and AssoJet III trenching systems across the offshore sections. Nearshore works will include loading and transport of submarine cables from Nexans’ facility in Norway, along with beaching and simultaneous lay and burial operations.
