WavEC Offshore Renewables has made the source code of ORIOM (Offshore Renewables Installation and O&M) publicly available. ORIOM is a Python-based modelling tool designed to simulate installation and operations & maintenance logistics and costs for offshore renewable energy projects, including fixed-bottom and floating wind, wave energy, and floating solar.
Developed and used by WavEC over the past decade for research and consulting, ORIOM is now published under the PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0 to improve transparency, peer review, and reproducibility. The tool integrates metocean hindcasts with technical, logistical, and reliability inputs to model the interactions of marine spreads, port operations, and maintenance scheduling. This allows estimation of key project metrics, such as energy losses and costs, and supports optimisation of O&M strategies tailored to site location, technology, and project scale.
ORIOM’s source code is available on GitHub, enabling teams to evaluate, plan, and improve offshore renewable operations.
